Several years ago, the Trustees of the Saint James Lutheran Church Foundation adopted a goal called The 2020 Vision. It was to grow the value of the Foundation’s assets to one million dollars by the year 2020. At the end of the year 2016, the Trustees’ annual report to the Vestry indicates that we are well on the way to meeting that goal.
Here are the basics: The value of Saint James Lutheran Church Foundation Trust Fund as of December 31, 2016, was $799,340.12. Contributions received in 2016 from membership offerings and memorials totaled $32,179.50. This was the third year that the Foundation accepted Thrivent Choice Dollars, and $249.00 was received in that way. In addition, there was earned income of $24,668.16 in 2016, and the value of assets owned by the Foundation increased by $46,168.64.
So at the end of 2016, the value of the Foundation’s assets stood at just a hair under $800,000. That’s 4/5’s of the way to the goal! What a blessing!
The Trustees of the Foundation are: Chairman Dave Schroeder, Don Hess, and Paul Farley. Thanks for their diligent and careful work in investing the Foundation’s funds. And thanks to all church members for gifts to the Foundation. Frequent giving by church members has helped a lot. Don Hess, who prepared the report, said, “The Trustees want to extend their thanks to each and every one who contributed to the Foundation. It is through the combined gifts, large and small, that we are going to meet our balance goal.”
In 2011, the Vestry approved a motion that no funds would be requested from the Foundation until the million-dollar goal is reached. Thereafter, the Foundation will seek to provide continuing and significant financial support each year for the work of Saint James, wherever it is needed most, as determined by the Vestry. When that happens, as money is distributed, the Trustees will also continue to promote growth of the Foundation through good investing and by encouraging more gifts.
God’s blessings and good, Christian stewardship are reflected in the 2016 annual report of the Foundation. Thanks be to God! And may the Lord bless the Foundation in the year ahead, so that it can be a blessing to Saint James, so that Saint James can bring the blessings of Christ to the world. -rmr-
