Saint James will be partnering with Ruth Krueger at First Presbyterian in South Saint Paul. Ruth is the wife of our member Stan Krueger, and together they have helped organize volunteers for Project Home during the month of July for years. Some Saint James members including Pastor Albrecht and Terese Thune have had the privilege of volunteering with them.
Project Home is a bridge program that provides families a safe, clean, comfortable overnight emergency shelter until housing is available. Each month, two different area congregations or schools provide overnight shelter space for up to 20 guest families. Most individuals are children. This year, Ruth has asked our church to volunteer for Project Home at First Presbyterian for a full week in July.
They need evening staff from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. They would like to have 5 or 6 volunteers to serve a snack (provided by Project Home), organize children’s activities and socialize with guests. Then 2 volunteers to stay overnight from 8:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. (9:30 a.m. on weekends) and serve a light breakfast in the morning (also provided by Project Home). Families arrive at the church after dinner in the evening and depart after breakfast each morning, on a bus provided by Project Home.
Ruth and Stan will be available to help give directions during the program. Descriptions of the volunteer duties and more information will be available in the Narthex. Project Home and individual Christians, schools and other communities of faith are working together to help struggling families get back on their feet.
