When was the last time you tried to read Leviticus? Did it strike you as a repetitious collection of obscure and obsolete rituals? Why is this book still in our Bibles? It is the center of the five books of Moses. The LORD speaks to us today in this book of the Bible. He shows us how He wants to make us holy so we can enjoy fellowship with Him. Leviticus provides vocabulary and terminology that is used throughout the New Testament. Our worship today is richer when we appreciate the difference between “common” and “holy,” and between “clean” and “unclean.” The value and purpose of ritual become clear when we see them as prophecies that are fulfilled in Christ Jesus.
