|How Long Is Easter?
This is the time of year when I like to remind people that Easter is longer than Lent. Lent is 40 days of preparation to celebrate Easter. Easter lasts for 50 days – until Pentecost. This year Pentecost will fall on May 31.
In most years, it is easy to lose track of the fact that we are in the season of Easter because so many other things are going on. Confirmation Sunday falls during the Easter season. Mother’s Day also comes during the Easter season. Graduations get started during the Easter season. So, we have lots of reasons to rejoice during the Easter season.
This year, maybe not so much. Confirmation Sunday will be delayed – we are not sure exactly how long. Graduations may have to be virtual. Will restaurants be open for Mother’s Day? We simply don’t know. But we do know this:
The Lord is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia!

Two Ways to Access Pastor Albrecht’s Bible Classes
These instructions work for Sunday morning Bible class and for Tuesday morning Bible class and for Saturday morning Bible class. Lord willing, these numbers should not change from week to week.
One way to join the discussion is to follow these instructions:
- Call 612-509-1531
- When you are asked for the conference you wish to join, dial 99#.
- When you are asked for the password, dial 14215#.
We have discovered that there is a limit of ten callers per session.
A second way to join the discussion is to follow these instructions:
- Call 929-277-6489
- When you are asked for the PIN, dial 401-952-400#
As you can see, this number is long distance. On most cell phones it will not cost you extra to dial this number. But if you have to pay extra for long distance calls, please call the 612 number listed above.
If you can dial the 929 area code without having to pay extra charges, please use the 929 number and leave the 612 number for those who need it.
Bible Study Methods led by Pastor Volker
Last Monday, April 13, I introduced a Devotional Style of studying the Bible that is based on the book, Bible Study Methods by Rick Warren. This was posted on Saint James’ Facebook page as a live stream. I was late in starting it because I didn’t practice using the technology ahead of time. I will do better the next time.
On Monday, April 20, we’ll look at the the Chapter Survey method. This is designed to get a “lay of the land” of a chapter in the Bible. It can be done in as little as 30 minutes or longer if you want. This method only requires a Bible, a sheet of paper, something to write with and ten steps.
This method is meant to help quickly survey a chapter for your continued study and give a sense of a book in the Bible by surveying all the chapters in a book. I’m currently using this method to prepare for a future Bible study. At 11 a.m. on Monday, April 20, I will explain this method, demonstrate it and provide notes to help anyone who wants to try it. Upon trying it, you may send me questions and thoughts through Facebook and I will do my best to respond.
I encourage you to check these out each week. One method might not appeal to you, but maybe the next one will. I hope this is helpful to the growth of your faith. Peace be with you.

Meet Linda Aronson
Imagine a place in southwestern Montana with a population of less than 800 people . . .
Now imagine that in order to get to a city the size of Saint Cloud, you would have to drive 64 miles.
Finally, image making that 64-mile trip every week, year after year, for almost 25 years!
That is exactly what Linda Aronson has been doing—faithfully delivering DVDs of our services to the television station in Missoula.
I had the wonderful opportunity to visit with Linda several times in the past few months. First, sharing the news that the television broadcasts could now include music and, most recently, just checking in to see how she was doing.
So, how did a woman in tiny Darby, Montana become so deeply connected to Saint James?
In 1995, our congregation was suspended from membership in the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod, because we could not endorse the synod’s adopted position on the roles of men and women. Linda Aronson, in little Darby, Montana began to read and study what Saint James’ Pastors Johnson, Stadler, and Albrecht had written.
“The holy spirit called me to keep studying. I shared what I learned with others and urged them to read and study, too.” The others included her family, members of her church, and her pastor.
The result? Linda and her family, including her parents who had been members in good standing for many years, were asked to leave their church.
Linda began receiving DVDs from Saint James and watched our services with her husband, daughter and parents. She then shared them to a wider audience by making arrangements for our services to be broadcast on Missoula Community Access Channel.
Linda remembers her late father getting phone calls inquiring about these services and the excellent Saint James Pastors. Saint James DVDs could also be checked out from the Missoula broadcast station, and often were.
Linda’s efforts and devotion to Saint James did not go unnoticed and she fondly recalled visits from Pastors Stadler, Albrecht, and Rokke. She said, “I kept them busy! I had them do services and teach Bible classes.” She chuckled as she told of sending Pastor Stadler off whitewater rafting with her husband and his friend, an atheist.
Currently, Linda’s husband belongs to a Missouri Synod Lutheran church. She has had several conversations with that pastor. He invited her to take communion with them. However, she is not to talk about the roles of men and women.
Please continue to keep Linda, her family and those watching our services on the Missoula Community Access Channel in your prayers.
And… if you would like to send her a note or card of thanks, I know she would appreciate it! Her address is:
