The LORD has arranged us in families of different shapes and sizes. There may be a Dad and a Mom and one or more children in a family. Some families have a Mom but not a Dad, and other families have a Dad but not a Mom. Husband and wife may be a family without any children. A single man or a single woman is a family. Divorce and death are just two of the reasons why not all families look alike. When a family is threatened, we do what we can to help.
Andy and Mariel Grimm have four happy, healthy kids. Last Fall, Mariel was caring for a 13-month-old boy whom she had been caring for since he was 9 weeks old. Mariel loves this boy like her own children. His parents were very pleased with Mariel’s care.
He had a seizure last September while he was at Mariel’s home. When the EMTs arrived, the boy’s mother told them he had hit his head very hard at home the night before. Because he did not have a seizure until the next day, the State of Minnesota has charged Mariel with felony assault. The case is built on the opinion of one doctor, who diagnosed the boy with Shaken Baby Syndrome. The burden has fallen on Mariel to prove her innocence. Competent legal counsel and expert witnesses are essential—and extremely expensive. The extended Grimm family believes that Mariel’s name will eventually be cleared and her family will remain intact and get free of this nightmare. We pray that Mariel will be exonerated—and quickly. Her trial begins on July 10.
If you would like to help the Grimm family, a door offering will be received on Sunday July 16. Checks may be made out to Saint James. Please indicate “Grimm family” on the memo line.
If you will not be able to be here on July 16, gifts may be sent to the church office. In addition to monetary help, Mariel and Andy request and very much appreciate your prayers.
Lord, have mercy!
